India vs Australia - Shami bowler matchbet vs Umesh Yadav

Cricket - ODI - 01 Oct 08:30

On the face of it this may seem like madness, Umesh took 4 wickets in the last game whilst Shami went wicketless. However, if we delve a bit deeper Shami isn't without a chance here. Shami has 91 wickets in 50 ODI's, taking a wicket every 27.7 balls. Umesh has 102 wickets in 71 ODI's, taking a wicket every 32.5 balls. In India Shami has 25 wickets in 15 games , whilst Umesh has 39 in 21.

Shami is probably a bit more of a threat with the new ball, where as Umesh is more dangerous at the death. This is where the match situation suited Umesh last game, as Australia got off to a flier and then lost wickets in batches at the death. The nature of the pitch here is a little unknown, it used to be a complete road, then it went to a raging turner, now it's been re-laid again there is talk that it will have a little in it for the seamers so that suits Shami (who hits a hard length with the new ball) compared to Umesh, who's weapon at the death is yorkers.

Whilst the series is already over, both of these players will be motivated to perform. They've slipped down the pecking order behind Bumrah and Bhevi so they'll want to make an impression to further their own ambitions. I would make Umesh a marginal favourite, based on the last game, but 2.3 for Shami in a 2-horse race looks over-priced. Half stakes, 5 points.
