County Championship Div 1Hampshire

Cricket - County championship D1 - 01 Apr 11:00

Getting this in early, as I think its a great bet.

Hampshire's first team is going to look something like this.

Amla, Dawson Vince Northeast Reaseau Ervine Mac Manus Abbott Berg Edwards Crane.

Thats no fewer than 8 internationals (Northeast has joined to get international caps)

Might lose Vince for the tests and Crane for the whiteball stuff but thats not too bad.

Batting was a huge problem last year that they have fixed. Abbott is frankly too good for this level, Edwards is still rapid if fit, and Crane is another year older.

I cannot have Essex at 3/1 again Porter and Harmer took all of their wickets last year, Porter is still recovering from a stress fracture. Wagner and Siddle are good overseas bowlers too. But they have lost their coach.

They will not have Cook for anywhere near as many games this time around with no champions trophy. Bopara may well be playing T20 somewhere, and I could see their batting getting plundered by England. Browne Chopra Laurence are all in the frame.

Yorkshire have lost Rashid to white ball cricket only, and probably Willey too. They will see nothing of Root, Sidebottom as retired. They were so shorthanded by the last game of the season they played 5 batsman only.

Notts have lost 1/2 their batting in the last 2 years. Taylor Hales B Tayor and Lumb. They also lost the highly rated Ben Hutton to Northants, will lose Ball and Broad to England, they are short a quality spinner too.

Lancs will probably lose Hameed and Livingstone if they make runs early season. No Anderson this time, who played more games due to champions trophy

Surrey have lost Sanga to retirement. Stoneman Roy both Curran brothers, Foakes and even Burns may all get looked at or picked by england, thats 1/2 a side.

Hants have 5 batsman who if they play all season will probably make 1000 runs each that makes a team very hard to beat, Abbott took 60 wickets last season as well.

Adams is good experienced backup with the bat as well. Abbott and Berg made over 1000 runs between them at 8 and 9.

4 bowlers got over 30 wickets last year. Ian Holland got 20 at less than 20 each.

I would like one more seam bowler then I am happy, but if they get one the price will drop again.

I feel Surrey and Essex at absolute full strength are better but they will not be anything like for most of the season.

Hampshire have 7 or 8 players who will play every game bar injury. Only Vince may miss big chunks of the season, The rest it will mostly be for T20Is only.

If they are bringing in players of Amla and Northeast's quality then they are not messing about they have spent big big money in cricket terms, and obviously are targeting the CC whereas before its been white ball stuff.

Also they have whiteball only players in Wood and Topely who will allow them to keep CC bowlers fresh.
