NBA Rookie Of The Year Malik Monk

Basketball - NBA - 18 Oct 00:10

This one is for Charlotte Hornets rookie Malik Monk to win Rookie of the year. I was not convinced to pick him because I was not sure if coach Clifford will give him the minutes considering how he managed rookies and young players in his career. However after Batum and Carter Williams injuries I think Clifford will have no choice but to give the young guy some playing time because he needs his scoring and the fact that he can play both the SG and PG position will help a lot. Monk was the 11th pick in this year draft but almost everyone considers him a steal. He was very good last year at Kentucky scoring 19.8 points per game in a team that also had 2 other lottery players like Fox and Adebayo.

Monk was great in the last 3 preseason games scoring 19,19 and 21 points. He looks very capable with his 3 points shots and in today's NBA this is very important. Monk is also a very confident person considering some of his statements in recent interviews. He actually said that one of his main goals for this season is to win the ROTY award in his first interview after he was traded by the Hornets.

Players like Lonzo, Simmons or Smith who are favorites for this award have the advantage that they will be the number 1 or 2 option for their rebuilding teams. However Monk will play for a team that is looking to get 42-45 wins this season and if he will help them do that voters might appreciate that. This happened last year when Saric had better stats but Brogdon won because he was important for the Bucks who was a playoff team.
